Finding a hidden room in your new house seems like a win. You can use it as a spare room or a panic room. This homeowner found a hidden room too. Too bad the hidden room turned out to be somewhere under the road.
Just when he parked a bus in front of his house, the road started to crack and left a massive hole. Then he found a hidden room under the bus. What was that supposed to be? A secret grave?
Architects spend hours designing a new project. Then comes homeowners who should be the next level creative minds. Sometimes, some homeowners will leave you speechless with their level of creativity.
Likewise, someone here surprised this homeowner with a kettle on top of the home. It looks so hilarious to even walk by this house with a tea kettle on top. The owner should boil some water during summer in that kettle.
If you go to the beach you might want to get a room at the hotel where your room will be facing the ocean. Everyone wants that. With the design of each of the hotels, it is impossible to get ocean view rooms each time.
So, this hotel took this challenge to the next level and designed its windows. Now it looks like there’s a ship sailing in the horizon from the shadow of the window. Beach view indeed.
Homeowners struggle a lot trying to make their pets a home inside their house. Some exceed the idea of creativity with their genius minds. Some come up with heartwarming ideas.
Likewise, this homeowner created a place for a hedgehog in his place and added a little signboard there. The signboard provides some information but we are in awe of the idea this homeowner came up with. Hope our little friend is happy there.
Hello Old Friends
The life of a homeowner can be a nightmare but at the same time full of speechless moments. This homeowner found the most epic wall of all time. After owning a home for two days he was going through the plaster.
Then he noticed something he never expected in these wildest dreams. Behind the plaster of his new house, he noticed that there was a massive stack of old brick that might be over a hundred years old.
Is it okay to have a fire extinguisher at home? For safety purposes, yes of course. This homeowner found something similar in his new place. You might be thinking getting a fire extinguisher should be a win.
Wait till you know the date this fire extinguisher is from. This one here is about a hundred and twelve years old. We are wondering whether it’s still gonna work or not. What do you think?
Having a water fountain is equivalent to being super-rich. Otherwise, you cannot own a water fountain while living in an old apartment in the suburbs. Some people like to go opposite to the wave and here is an example of that.
This homeowner got a water fountain at their place. The catch is, the fountain is on a sink. Then again, if you want something to happen, you will make it happen anyhow.
We have come across one of the cutest creations from the 1900s. After the work of the cement slab of this home was done, apparently a doggy decided to bless the place by stepping on it.
We are a huge fan of dogs so, we loved what happened to the cement slab after it dried out. At the same time, the homeowners over time probably were dog lovers too because no one really tried to fix it afterward.
If anything, horror movies have scarred us to our core regarding basement encounters. Some of us are still scared when we have to go to the basement while being completely alone at home.
We are guessing some people might have a similar problem as well. This homeowner found a toilet on top of the stair to the basement. Somebody would have thought- hm, maybe I will need to use the toilet before I enter the basement every time.
Sometimes we just want to enter the minds of some designers and ask them what were they thinking while making a certain design. Similarly, this architect of this place makes us want to find them ask them the same thing.
This house here does not have a front door. Are people supposed to enter the place using the back door? Very clever idea. We still cannot process the entire design of this house.
There are people who love to do things together. We don’t mind that at all. In fact, in some cases, it is actually wholesome. On another note, some people can take it to the creepiest level too.
This homeowner found two toilets in the bathroom facing each other. What were those people thinking exactly? Our condolences to the new homeowner who might not be able to figure out what to do with these two toilet buddies.
Stairway to Nowhere
Homeowners and architects are going on a war pretty sure. We can already see this coming. Architects are coming up with crazy designs and homeowners are helplessly going crazy with these designs. Check out what this homeowner landed on.
This place here has a stairway. That sounds all good so far right? Guess where does the stairway takes you? To the wall, to nowhere. Great work. We are out of words right this moment.
We have a safe floor. Pay attention to what people say when you are buying a house. The floor of this house is safe but that’s not what we meant at first. What we tried to say is that the floor of this house has a safe.
When the owners had to remove the carpet due to the water overflow, they found a safe on the floor. This house is actually safe. Even if someone tries to rob them, they can never guess where the owners kept their valuables.
The Sacred Window
Architects, are you guys ready to give us some answers? We have found yet another interesting design here. This homeowner bought this house where they have a window that is on top of the front door.
That window is well carpeted. Everything sounds good so far right? The fun fact is, the window is not accessible. Can someone ask the architect of this place what was the purpose of this window exactly?
In modern times we believe in minimalism. The designs are becoming more minimalistic. When we look back in the earliest times, we get chills at times seeing the extravagant designs of so many things.
This homeowner got a toaster that is from the seventies. The problem is that the toaster is so huge and at the same time, it is attached to the wall. What’s more surprising is that it still works.
We have realized that we went a little too harsh on some of the designs from earlier places the homeowners bought. Here is a change of air. This homeowner stumbled upon the cutest fence of all time.
The fence of this house is designed with the shape of cats. We are in love with this one. We want to get ourselves cat-shaped fences like this so we can make more cat friends.
Old houses come along with the scariest things. Even if things might not seem as scary as they look when you will have a scientific explanation for them. We would still be scared because of the stories; these horror films have been feeding us.
This homeowner found a mysterious box that actually looks pretty ancient. The scariest part is a sound that comes from the box that sounds like there is something moving inside it.
These homeowners found a secret door in their home. Should we be concerned about this or happy for them? Let’s just go with the latter one. It’s not every day when you buy a new house.
In addition to that, you cannot expect to find a secret door in your new house very often. Secret doors are actually a safe option for people. They sort of work like panic rooms in case of an emergency.
Secret Bee Hive
We are scared and surprised at the same time. This homeowner used to feel a vibration inside his house after going through a thorough investigation, he found the exact spot where the sound was coming from.
Later he kept digging the wall and what he found inside it was inexplicable. It was a beehive. What confuses us is that, whether the bees found a way to that spot or whether someone really buried them inside that wall.
Are you a board game fan? Board games come in different sizes. People who love board games love to collect different sizes of their favorite board games. In addition to that fans also collect different types of editions or features of their board games.
There is no going back when you are a fan. Here this homeowner bought the place from a monopoly fan. The floor of this place has a design based on a monopoly board.
People may deceive you in many ways. It is not acceptable to get deceived by people when you are buying a house. The homeowners bought this house and were content about it.
It took them some time to unravel something serious that is extremely sad. The walls of the house they bought were made out of gravestones. People who built this place could have been better and build the place with proper supplies instead of doing this.
The Desktop Toilet
It is scientifically proven that some people have minds that work very well when they are in the toilet. There is no argument in there because sometimes even we get brilliant ideas there or Eureka!
While being in the shower. This homeowner landed a place where next to the toilet there is a desk that can be folded. The previous homeowner must have been a big-time genius. There is no doubt about that.
Next Door Buddies
Designers and architects have once again made us speechless. this homeowner bought this place where there are so many doors. Having many doors may not sound like a problem, right?
The problem is, these doors are designed next to each other. So basically, you are looking at a series of adjacent doors next to each other. We don’t think it is that bad compared to what we have seen so far.
Safe Behind Within a Socket
Houses these days have safes inside them. The fun part of having a safe inside home is that people are hiding them in the most unbelievable spots. You will be surprised to find about the places and the way people hide or disguise safes these days.
Gone are days when safe would appear behind a painting. This homeowner saw a fake socket. Then after trying to dispatch it, they found a hidden safe behind it.
Old houses come along with a bunch of mysteries. Here, the homeowner was renovating an old house, in fact, the house is so old that it was from a hundred years ago. So, it is pretty natural to find things from that time while renovating the place.
The owner here ends up finding a samurai sword while cleaning up layers of dirt off the place. The sword looks very fascinating.
Spice Girl Promise
When you buy an old place from someone, you will buy all their memories with that house. Some memories are visible too as they leave marks. While taking off the wallpapers, this homeowner landed a letter on the wall that makes a promise.
This person promised that they would eat their overall if the spice girls are still popular by the time the toom is decorated the following time. This note was twenty years old already.
Tied Up Frog
We know that when someone or something has the possibility of making wanted movements, they need to be tied up. It is pretty natural to think that way. This homeowner landed this place where they saw a statue of a smiling from being tied up in the frog.
If we were there, we would never have freed the statue because it looks like someone had a reason behind doing so.
This homeowner has possession of something extremely old. It may have lost its value but the date still remains as living proof of how old this place was. While cleaning the crawlspace, the owner found an old burned newspaper.
While going through the paper, the homeowner found the date of the newspaper that is dated from a very long time ago. The burned newspaper is dated second October of 1902.
Unknown Land’s Soap
Sometimes you may find things from an ancient time. Sometimes you may find things from places that no longer exist. This homeowner here found a soap while packing their bags.
The fun fact about this soap is that it had a name written of the country it is from. The name of the country is Yugoslavia. If you look for this country on the map, you won’t find anything as this country no longer exists.
The Mysterious Shadow
Well, the shadow is not a mystery anymore. Here the homeowner noticed that, during summer, when the sun is above their heads, a shadow appears on their stair. The shadow shows the number thirty-six.
It is the house number of the owner. The reason behind getting the shadow of this place is the main door if the place has an etched glass hence the shadow passes through and shows thirty-six on the stair.
This person was staying at a house during New Year’s Eve. The house has a beautiful bookshelf which was empty. What’s more surprising is behind the boof shelf the then owner found a hidden room.
The hidden room wasn’t an ordinary room. Rather it was a fully equipped bedroom. Was that supposed to be a guest room or someone actually loves to be in there? We might want to be in that bedroom.
Usually, when people buy houses, many fittings come along with them. Hence, in some cases, the prices go up for those extra features. This couple was about to buy a house that came along with something too. The new house has a built-in toaster.
We are wondering if the seller charged some extra money just because they are giving away that toaster. Five hundred dollars for the toaster you will be getting with this house.
Empty Sim Card Ceiling
People are supposed to be extra cautious when they are working with a wall that just has been painted or if the cement slab is still wet. The most common features we get to see are pet paws.
Here, the homeowner found a surprising mark on the ceiling. After looking from a close distance, they found the mark of a sim card. The sim card was not there but it left a mark.
Scientific Farm House
The owner of a farmhouse decided to work on the walls. So, after getting rid of layers after layers of wallpapers, they lastly landed an amazing wallpaper. It has a space rocket and space base illustrations.
Overall, the wallpaper looks really cool. We just did not expect something like this under the wallpaper. We are just wondering about the person who lived there. We must say, they had great taste.
A Chain of No Purpose
Old houses come with things from ancient times. In most cases, old houses come with the weirdest things that no one can ever answer. Likewise, this homeowner bought this house which is from the nineteen-thirties.
Somehow, they got to see what’s behind a certain wall in the house. When looked closely they found a random heavy chain being embedded behind the wall. Why would anyone embed a chain behind a wall like this?
The Hidden Room
As we have mentioned earlier, old houses are full of mysteries. You may find things there which you might have never expected to see. For instance, someone here found a hidden room behind the shelf on the wall.
The most surprising part was, the room inside is fully furnished. We can see comfy sofas inside the hidden room. Sometimes we wonder whether people wanted to hide there to spend some me-time.
House Within a House
The new owners of this house found something wholesome that came along the house. Basements are supposed to be a storeroom. That’s what people do in most cases. This couple built an entire house for their kids inside the basement.
The house in the basement is fully functional, well equipped, and entirely furnished. The overall work looks very professional. We loved the house so much that we want to stay there now.
The new homeowner noticed something really cool one day. If you look at the image carefully, you will notice the view from the window looks different from one part to another. The reason behind this view is the windows is because of the view outside.
It looks like there are four different seasons taking place outside the window. The view looks magical in its own way. The blast of color makes the room look more vibrant.
This new homeowner was probably cleaning the dryer. When they moved the dryer, they noticed that it had money in it. What’s alarming is whether someone hid the money there or if somehow money blew in there.
If someone hid it there then it was a clever place to hide money. If the money blew over there then people should keep their money in a safe place so that it doesn’t blow.
The world is full of mysteries and architects have the most mysterious minds. Check out this image to understand what exactly happened here. There is a window in the toilet of this house.
The only problem is the way sunlight gets in this place is truly inexplicable. It looks like the sun shined on the toilet. It looks hilarious and at the same time, we are wondering whether it’s a clever trick of the architect.
A Renovation Strike
This homeowner made a strange discovery when he found 158 bowling balls while renovating his home. The homeowner came across the balls when renovation crews demolished the concrete foundation of his porch.
After some research, it turns out that the bowling balls were from the 1950s. Perhaps this part of the house was formerly used as a recreation space? Or perhaps the owner of these balls wanted to practice his favorite sport a little closer to home.
Those with sensitive stomachs may want to skip over this next picture. This Reddit user submitted this terrifying photo of a bunker in their home, and we’re willing to bet that few people would want to actually cross through that tunnel of nightmares.
These creepy-crawlies are most likely cave or camel crickets — known to congregate in caves, basements, and other cool and dark places. If you were wondering how basements could get any creepier, here’s your answer.
Well, That’s a Surprise
When purchasing a home, it’s customary for the previous owner or inspectors to alert you of the home’s features or additions. This new homeowner was in for a surprise when he removed a piece of wood on the floor to reveal an ancient well underneath his home.
Before the days of municipal water systems, it was common for homes to have a drilled or hand-dug well as their source of water. These wells were often located in the basements or crawl spaces of homes.
Brick Wall Mysteries
Brick has been used as a building material for centuries, it’s not uncommon to see it on the exterior or interior of many homes. This brick wall is unique, however. Wedged between the bricks is a strangely placed keyhole.
According to several Reddit users, this keyhole is known as a “Knox Box,” and behind the keyhole is a small metal box containing keys to that building. The Knox Box is used by firefighters or emergency responders, who often have a master key or code to open them.
This person made a small but still puzzling discovery when they set out to renovate their home. In between the dust and dirt of the construction site, they found a teeny tiny fork.
Most Reddit users responding to this picture joked that this small eating utensil belonged to a mouse or even a small supernatural creature. So far, this mysterious fork has left us with more questions than answers. Most importantly, where’s the rest of the small cutlery set?
What’s in the Safe?
When you purchase an older home, you’re not always aware of what may have happened in the home before you moved in. This person was left wondering what the story was behind this large safe that they found hidden inside a room in their home.
The safe apparently dates back to the late 1800s, but was empty when the person found it. It’s strange to think that the previous homeowners actually built a secret room to house this large safe. We wonder what was inside that needed so much protection.
Tapes of Terror
There are some discoveries made during renovations that are confusing or even funny. This discovery, however, is just creepy. This person found old tape recordings of infamous cult leader David Koresh.
Koresh was the leader of a religious cult known as the Branch Davidians. In 1993, he barricaded himself and his many followers in a home in Waco, Texas. What followed was one of the most violent confrontations involving the FBI in American History. This 51-day standoff resulted in the death of close to 80 people.
Strange Shaving Solution
This person was renovating their bathroom when they came across a pile of old and rusty razor blades. While this tetanus nightmare may seem like a strange thing to find, it was actually surprisingly common to have a gap behind the medicine cabinet or bathroom to dispose of razors.
Before modern razors and advances in shaving technology, men would simply toss their blades after shaving and dispose of them in these gaps. Looking at this pile of rusty blades, it’s easy to appreciate just how far grooming technology has come.
Going into the attic already comes with the expectation that you will find something creepy — especially if it’s an unfamiliar attic like this Reddit user, who ventured into the attic of the restaurant where they work.
This person went up to the attic to do some work and got the fright of his life. In a scene straight out of an Edgar Allan Poe poem, this person came face-to-face with a very creepy raven. Even the bird’s silhouette, illuminated by the flashlight, would leave us terrified.
A Coffin With a View
These construction workers must have been horrified when they came across this grisly surprise during the construction of a church in South Carolina. Hidden away in the church’s infrastructure was an iron coffin known as a Fisk coffin; these coffins were actually equipped with glass windows to see the face of the deceased.
The airtight coffin was used to prevent exposure to pathogens, or to preserve bodies until the burial service. Fisk coffins were considerably more expensive than standard coffins, and were used to bury wealthier or prominent members of society.
Painted Over Door
When you move into an older home, some design features may leave you scratching your head. It may be interesting to wonder what certain rooms and parts of the home were used for before you moved in.
These people were left confused when they realized that there was a door hidden in plain sight that had been painted over. While many Reddit users suggested that the door may lead to outside, this theory was quickly abandoned when the poster revealed that their home stood six feet above the ground.
Long before people were hanging calendars featuring cute puppies or centerfolds, the Aztecs of ancient Mesoamerica used a sophisticated calendar system printed on a stone known as an Aztec sunstone or calendar stone.
The Aztec calendar year consisted of 365 days and 18 months, each correlating with various deities or elements of the Earth. We’re not sure where this person found this ancient relic, or why they decided to embed it into their wall.
Don’t Go in There!
Most people would be creeped out to find a locked door in their basement. Thankfully, the story behind this ominous door is far less scary than you think — the hatch leads to the outside of the house, and was built as an emergency exit in the event that a tornado causes the house to collapse.
The hatch’s construction prevents strong winds from opening the hatch from the outside while allowing someone in the basement/tornado shelter to easily open the hatch from the inside.
There are few things that most people can agree upon, and that is that clowns are generally creepy. Clowns found underneath the deck of an old house? Even creepier.
This Reddit user decided to grace the site with this terrifying image of various clown figurines that they found while renovating their home. Aside from the fact that these painted toys are just strange, we’re also curious to know how exactly they got under the deck?
There’s nothing people like more than a challenge, or solving a mystery. This person was met with the opportunity to engage in both activities when they came across an old locked trunk. The trunk was found boarded up behind an old door in a basement.
Through sheer determination, and an ax, the Reddit user was finally able to open the trunk. Inside the trunk was a collection of fantasy novels from the 1970s — not exactly the treasure they had hoped for.
For Your Eyes Only
The Central Intelligence Agency is mostly tasked with gathering intelligence from overseas using a variety of covert means. In this government organization, discretion and secrecy are highly valued.
This person learned about the lengths that members of this organization will go to in order to keep a secret, when a metal lock fell off their door revealing a cache of classified documents and materials. Inside, the Reddit user found ID badges, a list of the CIA’s guiding principles, and business cards.
This Reddit user thought that he had hit the real estate jackpot when he purchased this large, but inexpensive, home. Little did he know that the home housed a collection of very dirty mattresses strewn haphazardly.
Somehow, the previous tenants of the house were able to secure a mattress close to the ceiling of this attic. It’s unknown why or frankly how the mattress got there. Perhaps they just wanted a closer look at the night sky?
For some time, this Reddit user’s older neighbor would tell him that the second stories of their homes once connected with a bridge. The poster didn’t believe the neighbor until they began renovating their apartment.
Sure enough, they discovered a doorway that faced the neighbor’s house, only five feet away. It turns out that during the 19th century, when the homes were built, linked apartments were common. While that may have been the case many years ago, we’re betting that this new tenant prefers their privacy.
This person had been living in their home for several years when they decided to remodel their basement. Tucked in the ceiling of their home from the 1940s was a dusty green metal lunch box.
Inside the box were stacks of money, carefully wrapped in a newspaper marked with the year 1951. In case that wasn’t enough good fortune, the homeowner soon found another box wedged between the rafters. This time, the box was even heavier than the first one. The second box contained close to $45,000!
Scary Seal Puffs
Every generation has its version of strange toys. From Cabbage Patch Kids to Furbies, children enjoy playing with some interesting things. This Reddit user came across a particularly strange toy or rather, dozens of them, when they remodeled their bathroom.
Hiding between the walls of their bathroom were tons of these creepy fuzzy toys. Reddit users were divided as to what the furry balls were supposed to be. Many believed they were seals, others simply called them “nightmare fuel.” Perhaps they weren’t wrong?
While most discoveries made during renovations unearth treasures from decades or centuries ago, few artifacts date back more than 50 million years ago. This couple found this fossil under the floorboards of their kitchen.
The preserved fish seem to be a species called the Knightia eocaena, an ancient fish that was once found in an area called the Green River Formation — which today includes parts of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. There’s still some mystery as to how the fossil got there, as it was found in a home in Massachusetts.
When you own a home, it can seem like there’s a never-ending list of things to do around the house. This amount of renovations, or home improvements, can be overwhelming for any homeowner.
It seems, however, that this house has seen its fair share of renovations when the home’s new owner came across a picture of the previous owner renovating their home. The interesting photo shows that renovations were clearly a family activity. We hope that, during future renovations, the kids are kept away from the power tools!
Pays to Clean Up
Most people begin renovations knowing that they’re going to have to spend large amounts of money. This person’s renovation, however, ended up making him about $25,000 richer when he stumbled across a cache of valuable old coins.
This Reddit user was cleaning out a pile of coal in their home when they found 83 golden Swiss franc coins. Known as Vreneli, these coins were produced between 1897 and 1949. The coins are made of 90% gold, and are worth about $300 apiece! Not a bad reward for doing a bit of cleaning.
Layers and Layers of Paint
At first glance, this image may seem like a modern painting or even a magnified look into a hard candy, but what you’re seeing is actually layers and layers of paint. This Reddit user was working on renovations for a home furnishings store when they came across this interesting hole in the wall.
It’s interesting to see how interior design trends throughout the years may have influenced paint color choices. Considering that lead-based paints were only discontinued in 1978, we hope that this contractor is wearing a protective mask!
Home Made Out of Railroads
Throughout history, railroads have been constructed using wooden railroad ties. These ties, or planks of wood, provide support for the rails and allow them to be held upright and spaced correctly. These planks of wood, while useful for railroad tracks, have often been used for other purposes such as home construction. Take this photo, for instance.
Unfortunately, these planks of wood have often been treated with creosote and other dangerous toxic chemicals. Because of this, many countries have banned repurposing railroad ties for home construction.
Strange Headboard Art
With the number of guests frequently passing through most hotels, there’s a good chance that you’ll see some strange things. This Reddit user decided to share some unique artwork that they found while renovating a hotel.
The artist decided to use one of the hotel bed’s headboards as their canvas when they painted this interesting painting. We wonder why the artist chose to paint their work in such a secretive spot, or how they were able to move the presumably heavy bed in order to paint the back of the headboard.
Creepy Crawl Spaces
Venturing into your home’s crawl space always comes with the risk of encountering something strange or scary. This person was left with many questions when they came across this bizarre collection of perfectly staged dolls in their crawl space.
Apparently, the dolls had been left in the space by the home’s previous owner. We can’t imagine how scary it must have been to come face to face with an army of creepy dolls.
Civil War Era Medallions
Finding an item during a renovation doesn’t always need to be a creepy or scary experience, sometimes, you can come across an interesting relic of the past. This Reddit user found an old medallion during their home renovation.
It turns out that the medallion actually dates back to the Civil War era, and was awarded to members of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). GAR was a veterans organization for members of the Union Army, and other members of the armed services, who served in the American Civil War.
Hidden Bathroom Artwork
When a home has passed through various owners, it’s easy for some of the home’s unique features to be lost or covered up depending on the current homeowner’s taste. This Reddit user came across a beautiful picture of a port and boats, carefully drawn on the wall of his bathroom.
Unfortunately, the drawing was done directly on the now-deteriorating wall of his bathroom. Considering the home was built in 1905, it’s easy to assume that the drawing is over a century old.
If you’ve ever wondered why bells play such an important role in most modern wedding ceremonies, the answer can be found in ancient Celtic culture and beliefs. Like many cultures, the Celts believed that the sound of ringing bells could scare evil spirits away.
It’s belief in this superstition that probably led to this building inspector coming across 100 bells in various locations around the home. One Reddit user suggested that perhaps the previous homeowner believed that the house was haunted, which makes this musical discovery even creepier.
Watch Out for Windows
There are many homeowners who enjoy living in an older house. While these older homes may have more character thanks to their unique features, they’re not without their own issues.
This homeowner was surprised to find that behind the walls of their home were the home’s original walls and windows. We can’t imagine the shock they would have gotten if they had tried to hammer a nail into the window!
Everything the Light Touches
This Reddit user shared an interesting surprise feature they found out about their house – when the sun’s rays hit in a certain direction, the outline of their house appears on their neighbor’s roof.
Many Reddit commentators joked that the outline of their house looks like the type of house a child would draw. Looking closer, they’re not wrong. We wonder how often this happens, and if the neighbors have noticed it too?
Mushrooms in the Morning
Most people dread cleaning the bathroom, especially the shower and bath. Though mildew or water stains are common issues in most bathrooms, this Reddit user was surprised to see an actual mushroom protruding from the bathtub of a house they were staying in.
We understand putting off cleaning, but we have to wonder how long this bathroom went without a good cleaning session? In addition to being pretty gross, some mushrooms can be toxic and a danger to family members and pets.
Vacuums in the Wall
Before light-weight vacuums and robot vacuums, cleaners became the norm, vacuuming used to be a cumbersome chore. In fact, many houses actually had a vacuum cleaner built into the house’s walls to avoid lugging around the heavy models of the time.
The motor of the built-in vacuum cleaner was typically located in a garage or a basement. According to many Reddit users, these built-in vacuum cleaners are actually more powerful and quieter than some modern models. Go figure!
A Preserved Tree
When you buy an older home, you assume that you may come across some outdated designs and features. This person purchased a mid-century home that came complete with a giant preserved tree in the entrance.
The tree appears to be a very old bristlecone pine. According to the owner, there are two additional trees located on the property. We understand wanting to bring some natural elements into your home’s design, but an actual tree seems a bit much.
A Perfectly Preserved Milk Door
It may seem surprising, but up until a couple of decades ago, many homes came equipped with a milk door. This milk door would be used by milkmen to deliver fresh milk or pick up used bottles. Milk delivery services were common as many homes did not have refrigerators.
As technology changed and refrigerators became more common, the need for a milkman became obsolete. That, combined with the fact that grocery stores began selling milk at inexpensive prices, led to the end of the milk delivery services.
Three Doors to One Room
When we first came across this photo, we were a bit confused. In fact, this photo looks like something out of a cartoon in which the character must look behind three identical doors.
It turns out that this old house has three small doors that all lead to the same room. We have no idea why you would need three doors to access one room. Are that many people coming and going that you would need multiple entry points?
Don’t Panic When You See This Secret Panic Room
We can’t imagine the fear or surprise that this homebuyer must have experienced when they found out that their home came equipped with a secret panic room. Apparently, the existence of this creepy room was not disclosed when the person purchased the house.
According to the new (and presumably terrified) homeowner, the room has a system to generate fresh air, electrical outlets, and food. Considering how scary it looks inside, we would probably avoid stepping foot in there!
A Newspaper Article That Predicted the Civil War
Finding an old newspaper is always fascinating. Long before the days of e-readers and social media, newspapers were the most common and reliable source of information.
This person came across an old copy of a newspaper from 1857 that predicted the impending American Civil War. The creepy part of this discovery is that the Civil War did start in 1861 – just a few years after that ominous article was written.
A Special Claws in the Rental Agreement
Looking under a deck or exploring a home’s crawlspace can sometimes result in finding something very surprising. This couple got the surprise of a lifetime when they discovered that a bear was living under the deck of their home, and using it as a warm place to hibernate.
While this bear seems like an adorable new roommate, bears can actually be very dangerous. We hope that he was able to be safely relocated to a more bear-friendly home.
So, this homeowner wanted to convert their place to an office. If you look at the place, it actually looks stunning for an office. Things got messy when they stepped on a certain part of the floor.
They found a trap door there. Although what’s inside the door looks very messy at the same time, we are stunned to see a trap door in this era. That was highly unlikely to happen.
Treasure Hunt Indeed
With old houses, people can find tons of old things that the previous homeowners have left, over time. In most cases, people find vintage collections or things that are of no use these days. This homeowner found something too in their bathroom.
After the treasure hunt, they ended up finding some coins, a shiny diamond ring, one chain, and a hair clip. We are wondering why would someone hide a diamond chain in the bathroom wall.
The Paw Wall
We have found yet another wholesome wall that has been blessed by a paw. This homeowner found something interesting on the wall. After looking closely, they noticed that the wall has a mark on it.
Honestly, we find paw marks the cutest thing ever. We can’t speak for the homeowners but seeing a paw mark on a brick wall immediately made our day ten times better. We loved this brick wall.
The Milk Door
Old houses and their mysteries have come to a halt. Here is our last and yet the most mysterious finding of a homeowner. This homeowner found a little door under the cabinet.
When they looked closer to investigate what was the use of the door, they found out that the door was a milk door. We are not certain who and why used this milk door but it looks hilarious under the cabinet.
Music for All
At this point, we have been torn apart between wanting to laugh or sigh at the blunders these homeowners went through. Here, the homeowner bought a place where they have a built-in music player. You may think that might be a win.
Wait till you hear the music player play music for the entire house. You can hear the music in every room. We are a bit taken aback wondering if this is great or messed up.
