Rap star Nicki Minaj has been making headlines these past few days, after the artist shared a series of tweets wherein she expressed she had some reservations in regards to the COVID-19 vaccine.
Minaj revealed that this year’s Met Gala, which took place on Monday this week, required attendees to show proof of vaccination, and that she isn’t ready to get the COVID-19 vaccine just yet.

“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met,” wrote Minaj on Twitter, asserting that “if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now.”
She continued, “In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one.”

Things took an unexpected turn for the rapper, when she disclosed that her cousin will not be getting the jab because a friend of said cousin got an unexpected side effect as a result.
“My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent,” the artist wrote.
She further elaborated, “His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied.”

Nicki Minaj got some backlash after sharing that tweet above. Interestingly enough, however, the rapper’s tweet was not an attempt to use her influence to prevent others from getting the vaccine. In fact, she supports those who opt to take it.
One of her followers wrote, “I had to get the vaccine cause they wouldn’t let me look for a job or get a job and to earn some money you know im unsure about getting the second vaccine.”
Minaj replied stating, “I know babe. A lot of countries won’t let ppl work w/o the vaccine. I’d def recommend they get the vaccine. They have to feed their families. I’m sure I’ll b vaccinated as well cuz I have to go on tour, etc.”

The media was quick to jump to the conclusion that Nicki Minaj had decided not to get vaccinated because she was afraid of the side-effects, particularly one outlet that said the real reason was because the rapper was “worried about swollen testicles.”
“3 lies in a row from huge news platforms,” wrote Minaj sharing an image with headlines from USA Today, Yahoo! News, and The Daily Beast.
She added, “I cited my young child as why I didn’t want to travel. But notice how NONE of them mentioned that? Ask yourself why that was.”

On Wednesday, Minaj revealed that she had gotten an invitation from The White House, reassuring fans that she would be asking some pertinent questions, regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, on their behalf.
“The White House has invited me & I think it’s a step in the right direction. Yes, I’m going. I’ll be dressed in all pink like Legally Blonde so they know I mean business,” she asserted, adding, “I’ll asks questions on behalf of the ppl who have been made fun of for simply being human.”

Nicki Minaj was already facing backlash over the tweet about her cousin’s friend’s swollen testicles, but the straw that seemingly broke the camel’s back was a clip that the artist shared on her Twitter account.
The clip itself is from Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who made a compelling point about why Minaj was being chastised by the liberal outlets and disgruntled leftists on social media.
“It’s Nicki Minaj’s cousin’s friend’s testicles who are swollen from taking the ‘vax.’ That’s the claim,” said Carlson.
He continued, “But this has not anything to do with the physical effect of the vaccine that makes our political class mad, it’s the last part of Nicki Minaj’s tweet that enrages them. The part where she says, ‘You should pray on it,’ make the decision yourself like a free human being and quote, ‘Don’t be bullied.’”
“So our media and public health officials didn’t like this because they make their livings bullying people. So they couldn’t let it stand,” the news host concluded.

Upon sharing Tucker Carlson’s clip on her Twitter, Nicki Minaj was bombarded with criticism from people who baselessly claim that the Fox News host is a white nationalist and white supremacist.
“You know he’s a white nationalist right?” wrote woke Twitch streamer Hasan Piker in response to Minaj’s Tucker Carlson clip, providing zero evidence to back his unfounded claims.
“Right. I can’t speak to, agree with, even look at someone from a particular political party,” sarcastically replied Minaj, adding, “Ppl aren’t human any more.”
Making a rather suitable analogy, the rapper further explained, “If you’re black & a Democrat tells u to shove marbles up ur a**, you simply have to. If another party tells u to look out for that bus, stand there & get hit.”

“Naur Nicki he’s a racist and white supremacist,” wrote another disgruntled user.
“The black woman lied on me & made ppl attack me. But I can’t quote this man who did the opposite,” replied Minaj. “Okay. F—K HIM. YASSSSSSSWOOHOOOOOOOOOO happy now? Brain dead,” she added.

Embracing her sarcastic self, Nicki Minaj responded to the intolerant comments she has been getting for voicing her opinion, and for sharing the clip of Tucker Carlson.
“You know how many US Presidents were white supremacists?” wrote Minaj, whilst pointing out the kind of comments she has been receiving on social media. “Oh please. Just stay on topic,” the artist asked her followers.
She added, “Y’all can’t do that. The topic is: asking questions is OK. but let’s make the topic: Nicki talks to white racists so that you can all sleep better tonight. Dummies”

More recently, Nicki Minaj has expressed her disappointment in this attempt of cancellation she has been the subject of. What’s more, the rapper has even compared cancel culture to censorship in Communist China.
“You can’t speak for the fear of the mob attacking you. If that doesn’t give you chills up and down your f—ing spine. This is scary,” stated Minaj on Instagram Live last night.
She continued, “You should be able to ask questions about anything you are putting inside of your body. We ask a bunch of questions about the most simple things… But you can’t just innocently ask a question about something going in your body?”

Minaj then reminisced of a time she went to China and was told not to speak ill against those who are in power, and how free speech no longer exists here in the West any more.
“I remember going to China and they were telling us, you know, you cannot speak out against, you know, the people in power there, etcetera,” Minaj recalled.
“And I remember all of us thinking, ‘oh, ok, we understand and we respect the laws here and that it’s so different [from] where we live.’ But don’t y’all see what’s f—ing happening?”
“Don’t y’all see that we are living now in that time, where people will turn their back on you for not agreeing? Where people will isolate you if you simply speak and ask a question,” she concluded.
Pardon some of the coarse language in this, but @NickiMinaj went on Instagram Live last night to her 157,000,000 followers and gave a very powerful speech about how America’s Cancel Culture is turning us into a country like China.
I love to see people waking up & standing up! pic.twitter.com/MXy9y8q1E6

The Bureaucracy In February 2016 on a tour of Chinese media outlets, Xi announced “all the work by the party’s media must reflect the party’s will, safeguard the party’s authority, and safeguard the party’s unity.” The job of Chinese media is not to inform the public and search for the truth.. CCP and the Media Chinese media portray specific criticisms the West has made against China, such as on human rights issues, as being “anti-China,” as if a story about the party’s human rights abuses is an affront to all Chinese people.. Recently, the Chinese propaganda machine has started manipulating Western sensibilities by calling any criticism of Chinese government actions “racist” against all Chinese.. China kicked three Wall Street Journal reporters out of the country after The Journal published an Op-Ed about China that spoke the truth about the risks China’s system of government poses to the world;. Strategic approaches to China’s mass use of censorship, propaganda, and disinformation can be broken up into two categories: China’s targeting of its own people and China’s external efforts.. Sixth, the administration should be encouraged to accelerate and broaden efforts to designate Chinese state controlled media companies as foreign agents who need to register as such, and to make sure that “journalists” working for such entities are not credentialed as journalists.

But one-party governments have rarely survived longer than 70 years: the Communist Party of the Soviet Union ruled for 74 years before the bloc collapsed in 1991, and Mexico's Institutional Revolutionary Party retained power for 71 years until its defeat in the 2000 elections.. Pro-China nationalists use intimidation to silence critics in Australia – but can they be countered without stifling free speech? ›
As I have written in a policy brief for China Matters, the rhetoric and actions of pro-China nationalists create two contrasting problems for Chinese people living in Australia.. First, these nationalists are intimidating people who are critical of the Chinese Communist Party, or China more broadly.. Some responses to these perceived attacks include intimidating those with alternative views.. KELLY BARNES/AAPThis intimidation and harassment can affect people’s families back in China, too.. The reporting of people’s personal details or what they have said in classrooms to Chinese authorities is also unacceptable.. Some may express their patriotism or support for aspects of China’s policies in an email or chat group to other students, for example, without intimidating or threatening anyone.. One Chinese-Australian told a China Matters researcher they cannot speak publicly on sensitive issues such as Taiwan because they would be accused of being a stooge of the Chinese government (if they were pro-unification) or unpatriotic (if they were pro-independence).. Yet if every time they express their political view, Australian society accuses them of being a threat to democracy, it only serves to alienate them.. However, any policy response needs to balance protecting the victims of intimidation with the rights of individuals to express their views of China without being labelled as threats to democracy.. The first problem of intimidation and harassment requires stronger enforcement of existing laws and policies.. Universities need to take tough actions to punish students who intimidate others, or those who report the views expressed in classrooms, to the Chinese authorities.. Chinese students should be encouraged to express their views, whether they support or oppose the Chinese government.. Photo: Australia Hong Kong Link.Rather than blaming these students for their views, Australian society needs to hold institutions accountable when they cave in the face of Chinese government pressure or censor the views of those who are critical of China.. We will not share your details with third parties.

First, these nationalists are intimidating people who are critical of the Chinese Communist Party, or China more broadly.. Second, the Australian media have argued or insinuated that those who merely express support for Chinese policies must be brainwashed or threats to democracy.. The Chinese Communist Party, through its propaganda and education system, encourages the conflation of the concepts of “China” with the state, the party and the Chinese people.. As a result, criticisms of the Chinese government, its policies, the party or its leaders can be interpreted by some nationalists as an attack on the entire country and its people.. When they come across someone who disagrees with a Chinese government policy in their classrooms or chat groups, they will often publish his or her personal details online or report them to a Chinese consulate.. Now Xi Jinping, China’s current leader, has his own message for the country’s private businesses that reflects a drive for both economic growth and greater Communist Party control: We’re here to help you, but you must also help and heed us.. China emerged as a global economic power in large part by freeing entrepreneurs to open factories and find markets around the world.. At the same time, the new directives call for ensuring that China’s rising capitalists are recruited into the party’s “united front” of allies, ready to support the government’s economic and political priorities.. Over 30 years earlier, Deng’s generation of reformist leaders revived the private sector that Mao had largely snuffed out.. In the next decades, China’s entrepreneurs grew into prosperous capitalists, such as Li Shufu, who started a small business making refrigerator parts and then motorcycle parts.. His robust rhetoric about the importance of the state sector and party dominance increasingly worried business leaders.. “This is to say, ‘No, no, no, you are still part of us.’”. China needs its private sector.. While state-owned companies benefit from government favors and nearly limitless credit from state-controlled banks, small and medium-size businesses have played a far larger role in the country’s remarkable growth.
Who are the members of the Communist Party?. Alongside them are academics, scientists and business people — lifelines for a U.S.-Chinese economic relationship that has persisted despite souring ties.. The power and symbols of the Communist Party of China loom inside companies and other organizations, and new, shinier hammer-and-sickle signs have popped up at community centers in towns and cities across the country.. If even Beijing is struggling to track the 92 million party members and their families, it’s not clear that the United States could do a much better job if it decides to carry out its travel ban..
